Our Team
TIMOTHY BATES / Principal
Tim was admitted to the bar in 1992 having successfully obtained an LLB(Hons) degree at Auckland University. He has practised law in NZ ever since, apart from a two year stint in the United Kingdom. Tim has appeared and conducted litigation in the District Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. His peers would describe him as hard working, thorough, and highly competent in his chosen areas of law. He carries out his work with the right balance of seriousness and affability, and prides himself on advancing clients matters expediently.
Tim has offered his time to the Grey Lynn Citizens Advice Bureau as a volunteer legal adviser from 2017 until 2020.
Tim is a columnist to the Building Today magazine, and has been commissioned to assist the Building Better Homes Towns Cities National Science Challenge as regards Affordable Homes. He is a regular speaker at construction themed conferences.
Outside of the law, Tim is an avid music appreciator, and loves being involved in sport and outdoor activities with both of his children. He also enjoys cycling, and most days a week you will find him commuting to work by bike. For the last 10 years or so he has taken part in the Round Taupo Cycle Race.
HARRY BIRD / Law Clerk
Harry Bird is a law clerk with us. He has worked with us since 2023 whilst completing his degree at Auckland University. He is in his last year of studies where he is completing an LLB/BSc. He is a high academic achiever, a valued member of staff, and will remain with this firm until December 24. He can be contacted on reception@tmbates.co.nz
